The Defense Systems Sector Engineering team seeks a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer to support the development of future digital engineering capabilities for the sector and support the enterprise as part of the newly formed corporate Digital Transformation Office (DTO). The selected candidate will support the development of a portfolio of next-generation enterprise Digital Engineering capabilities. These capabilities will drive enhanced collaboration with manufacturing and supply chain as well as advancements in modeling and simulation, digital thread, design automation and Dev*Ops. The candidate will also help shape Defense Systems Digital Engineering strategy and lead projects that deploy our next-generation Digital Engineering capabilities to sites throughout Defense Systems. The primary location for this position is McLean, Virginia but the selected candidate can work on-site at one of our major Northrop Grumman sites such as (Huntsville, AL, Elkton, MD, Plymouth, MN, and Orlando, FL).
This position reports to the Defense Systems Sector Director, Systems Engineering and will be matrixed to the Defense Systems Sector Director of Digital Transformation. The primary responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:
Identify the right digital engineering processes and tools to use to solve our Defense Systems programs challenges
Help teams implement digital engineering processes, such as Agile, Dev*Ops, Performance Modeling, Virtual Simulation & Testing, and Model Based Engineering practices and tools
Oversee the performance of geographically separated Agile teams and work effectively with cross-functional and cross-sector individuals within those teams
Consult with teams and engineers, including direct participation in working sessions, to provide guidance, and help them work through challenges related to adopting digital engineering
Some engineers are new to Digital Engineering, and youll help them get up to speed and become effective practitioners
Develop and summarize status, data and metrics to support project reviews with the DTO and Defense Systems senior leadership
Provide informal training on digital engineering processes and tools
Develop and maintain the DTO digital engineering vision and roadmaps for the candidates capability portfolio
Define a common baseline enterprise change management approach for deploying the candidates digital capability portfolio
Work with the Defense Systems Sector Director, Systems Engineering and operating divisions to incorporate digital engineering into functional roadmaps, improvement plans, policies and technical talent needs.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in STEM field with 9 years of experience; 7 years with a Master's Degree; 4 years with PhD
Must be comfortable working in an Agile team
Experienced in digital engineering tools (e.g. Cameo, Rhapsody, FlexSim, etc.)
Familiarity with MS&A experience with other modeling and simulation tools, such as System ToolKit (STK) and Simulink
Familiarity with Dev*Ops processes and tools, hands-on experience a plus
Familiarity with Agile processes and tools, hands-on experience a plus
Familiarity with Digital Engineering concepts such as Digital Threads and Digital Twins
Demonstrated success in leading, collaborating, and developing cross functional teams of varying degrees of skill on complex technical projects
Must possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of management and individual contributors
Active DoD Secret clearance
Willing to travel 25% of the time
Preferred Qualifications
Active DoD Top Secret Clearance
Ansys Model Center experience
Experience leading technical teams
Experience with Agile processes and tools, hands-on experience a plus
Experience with Digital Engineering concepts such as Digital Threads and Digital Twins
Salary Range: $108,600.00 - $188,600.00
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
